Ice princess
Our RV roadtrip in New Zealand with kids continues… We left for the Southern Island on Wednesday morning, the boat trip was stunning. When we left Wellington I was already `wowed` by the views, seeing the Southern Island was even more beautiful, indescribably. The clear blue sea, the lush green hills and the rocky mountains make a great view. Our boys didn’t enjoy the view at all. They found a playground and their friend Joost on the ferry….
We arrived in Picton at 02:00PM, taking the Queen Charlotte route to our destination. Again we are amazed by the beautiful views. When we finally find a campground we are happy to see we have a beautiful spot at the beach. We park the RV at a little quiet beach with a blue sea, surrounded by grass, white sand and even a playground next to us! We spend the afternoon on the campground. I have time to read my book, The Ice Princess of Camilla Lackberg. So far so good.
We left for Cloudy Bay this morning. It’s the wine area of Marborough Sounds. We start our tour by visiting a beautiful winery: Highfields by Blenheim. Before we go we have a wonderful lunch with spectacular views and of course a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
Today we checked in on a campground in Blenheim, tomorrow we will drive to Kaikuro where we will make a whale tour! I am so excited. And.. we have lovely warm and sunny weather at the moment.
Seals
Today we drove from Blenheim to Kaikoura in 2 hours. The drive took us along the coast, with again, beautiful views. The mountains looked like if the were made of velvet, covered with grass. The color of the ocean is deep blue. We took a little break to have a cup of coffee and soak up the stunning views. The sun is shining.
When we were close to Kaikoura I saw seals lying in the sun, close to the road. We stopped to have a good look at these interesting animals and even saw a baby seal. There were many many seals, very impressive to see. After this wildlife break we drive straight to our Top 10 campground for the night. As the sun was still shining we enjoyed the pool, having a good swim. At the end of the day we hired a go-kart for the kids, which they absolutely loved. Again the boys ran into Joost. While the kids were playing, we enjoyed a nice glass of wine together. Tomorrow we will go on a whale tour, I am so excited. Must be awesome to see these big creatures in the wild. Sunday morning we will drive off to Christchurch. We are in New Zealand for over a week now, have to say we are absolutely enjoying New Zealand with kids.
