Holiday South Africa with child: Cape Town

There we go! Our holiday in South Africa with child! We will be travelling from Cape Town to Addo Elephant Park and back to Cape Town again. First let’s introduce our selves, we are the Mulder family, Ivar, Joan and our daughter Lise (3,5 fr). We really wanted to make a long trip before Lise turns 4 and has to go to primary school. Our choice for South Africa has everything to do with stunning nature, lots of animals and the warm climate. We will be visiting South Africa in the fall, the average temperature will be around 25 degrees celsius.

We choose not to book through a tour operator and booked our tickets, car and lodging ourselves. And now.. it’s really time to take off! Let’s start our South Africa with child adventure! The 11 hours flight goes surprisingly well, with a little help of all the inflight entertainment. Our first stay is the African Family Farm in Houtbaai. Looking at the website it should be a paradise for children and it is!! There a plenty of facilities for the kids. We are relaxing in front of our cabin and Lise is enjoying herself, running around and playing. The first 5 days of our trip we explore Cape Town: we visit Table Mountain, watch the penguins at Boulders Beach, (take the 2nd exit for a shorter walk), go to Cape of Good Hope (watch out for the monkeys!), make a boot trip to watch the sea lions at Camps Bay and Clifton beaches. Of course we also visit the famous Cape Town Waterfront, the two oceans aquarium, and Chapman’s Peak (must do if you are doing a roadtrip). The weather is amazing; 25-35 degrees Celsius. Quite high for this time of year. As the wind is blowing strong we really need to remember to use our sunscreen. We buy a special UV protection suit for Lise and use our hats carefully.

After 5 days enjoying Cape Town and surroundings we leave for Swellendam and nature park “De Hoop”.
