We went on a camper trip through France and Spain with our very own bright-red hippy camper van. What an experience! In three weeks we went from Zandvoort to the north of Spain and back and we visited some beautiful spots in France on our way. To make your first trip in a camper is quite the experience! It’s lovely to have your own home on wheels. To make our camper road trip as relaxed and comfortable as possible we made a list of camper trip gadgets for a camper holiday with kids:

1# Hammock
Number one on the list is the hammock because a holiday is not complete without it! And not one you need to tie to a tree, because what if there are no trees around?! No, one that comes with it’s own stand. Taking a nap in your own hammock is the ultimate holiday feeling, am I right?!
#2 High chairs
No messing about with pillows on the seat, but a real camping chair with extra high legs so the kids can take place at the dinner table. The chairs fold like an umbrella and go into a bag so they don’t take up a lot of space, great!
#3 Fatboy Lamzac XXXL
Ooooh this is one of my favorites!! The Lamzac XXXL is amazing! It hardly takes up any space and you can “inflate” it into a two-person chill airbed. You inflate it by waving it around so you catch the air. Just roll it up and your mattress is ready! The kids are just as big a fan as us. The perfect camper trip gadget!
#4 Magnetic board
Yes, the iPad is handy, but games on the road with a screen are good too! These magnetic boards come with all kinds of shapes and are very thin. That way they don’t take up a lot of space and they get lot’s of creative results from your kids.
#5 Night lamp
Our kids like to sleep with a light on, but Kev and I prefer to have our beauty sleep in the darkest way possible. The night lamps of Little Lovely Company are terrific! You can buy them in the best shapes and they switch off automatically. Kids happy, you’re happy!
#6 Car rental
A car rental?! But you’re with the camper aren’t you? Yes and yes! We made a lovely road trip with the camper all right. A big advantage of the camper is that you can stand and sleep in the middle of nature. You have your breakfast in the morning under the clear blue sky and first sun rays and you have dinner under the stars in the evening. But the camper does come with a disadvantage… It’s rather tricky to go out and discover those beautiful small Spanish and French villages. Our 7 meter long red bus does not fit well down all the small and crooked streets.
For that reason we rented a car through AutoEurope this week. We picked up the car on our way to the campsite. Through AutoEurope you can book the best deal accustomed to your liking. For us that means picking up the car at Girona airport at Europcar. I walk inside and I am outside in 10 minutes holding the car keys. In front of me is a shiny A3, a nice upgrade from the nice lady behind the counter. The car comes with a standard own risk of € 1.000 and unlimited millage. Kev drives the camper to the campsite and I follow with the car. We park the camper and discover all the wonders Spain has to offer this week by car. Brilliant!
7# Sexy tight swimming trunks for the guys
You know them, those tight swimming trunks people also call “ball busters”. These are mandatory to wear on most French campsites and no, these are not part of our normal luggage. So if you don’t want to buy an ugly, overpriced French pair be sure to bring a reasonably priced pair from Holland if you wish to go for a refreshing dip.
8# Magnetic game of goose
Very handy for those long drives! This small travel edition is foldable and magnetic so you don’t need to worry about pawns getting scattered through the camper. Hours of pleasure! That is, if your kids can take a loss…
9# "Who is it?" travel game
Another great game in the category “entertainment for on the road”. The travel edition of “Who is it?”. Nice and flat so it doesn’t take up any space!
10# Dopper bottles
We are large Dopper bottel fans! The kids use them to drink from in the car. During a stop or during dinner the large cap comes off and they use them as “wine glasses”. The bottles are plastic so very easy to clean and very sustainable!
