Holiday packing & packing list

Yes, yes, yes!! We will fly to our beloved United States in one week. As we are working all week, I need to start packing this weekend. Back in the good old “backpack days”, I threw some cloth in my backpack and off we go. Now, with two young kids, travelling needs a little more preparation. “Sharing is caring”, so you can find my tips here: holiday packing &  packing lists.

Tips for your packing list

# 1. Use the “notes” option on your phone for the packlist. Add items to your list anytime something pops up. If you aren’t into the digital lists, use good old fashioned pen and paper, don’t forget to take it with you all the time. Or stick post its everywhere, works as well 😉

# 2. Use different subheadings: luggage, hand luggage and even “need to buy”, to make sure you know exactly what to get before you take off.

# 3. Online you can find many packlists, maybe this one works good for you.

# 4. Group you packlist: Cloth -> baby -> 3x white t-shirt

# 5. Are you finally done packing? Use you packlist to check if everything you need is really in your suitcase.

Tips holiday packing

# 1. I use to take cloth with me for up to 1-1,5 week, when we go on our 3 week holiday. As I need to wash my sheets, I don’t mind to wash my cloth with them as well.

# 2. Pack per outfit, put 7 outfits on your bed and add matching shoes, scarves, belts, underwear. This way you won’t pack too much,and what you take with you will match perfectly 🙂

# 3. As we will be flying app 16 hours,I bought the kids backpacks. To entertain them, I filled the backpack with crayons, paper, a book and window stickers. Of course we won’t forget the Ipads, including headphones, with lots and lots of movies and games. Make sure you have a good travel backpack for yourselve as well! A good backpack is a must when travelling.

# 4. During the flight it’s very important to drink water as the air in the plane is dry. Take a bottle with you to be sure the kids can drink anytime they want. I have 2 Sigg bottles for the kids. They are lightweight, beautiful, anti-leakage and keep your water cool. My kids love them as they have Junglebook (my son) and little animals (my daughter) on them. When you pass security the bottles need to be empty. Right before you enter the plane you can buy water in sealed bottles, put the water in the Sigg bottle once you are in the plane.

# 5. Always take spare clothes with you in the hand luggage! For the kids and yourself (if you have vomiters). Accidents happen, you will be thanking yourself when you are able to change the cloth of your kid after a wrong placed pie and another 9 hours to fly.

So far my tips for holiday packing and packlist. I need to concentrate on my big packing assignment again. Do you have any tips & tricks on packing for holidays and packlist? Love to hear them!
