By the time you read this we’ve been a day in (hopefully) sunny Florida .Preparing ourselves for our 3 week Florida road trip.<\/p>\n

We’ve been on a road trip through America twice before and we loved it. After the West Coast and Central America, it’s now the East Coast, Florida, it’s turn. We’ve booked our trip with Travelhome<\/a> again because our first trips with them were enjoyable. \u00a0And because the ladies of the reservation department know a lot about travelling with kids (what are the rules about a child’s seat in a camper, will I make the connections on time etc.). This time however, I chose to only book the camper through them (at an extremely fair price of \u20ac 1.300 for 3 weeks) and to arrange my own flights.<\/p>\n

With 2 small children your travel pace is a bit slower than when you travel with just the two of you. We drove about 4000km on our first trip through the States but that was far too much. On our second trip it was 3.500km and we plan on doing just 1.500km in three weeks this time.<\/p>\n

Route of our Florida road trip<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We start and finish in Orlando. When we arrive we will pick up a rental car<\/a> and drive ourselves to the hotel from the airport. When you go on a camper trip in the States it’s mandatory to sleep at least one night in a hotel before you pick up the camper. We wanted to take a taxi to the hotel but that would have cost us 125$. The car is less than half the price. We will bring it back the next day (15 taxi minutes from the camper pickup point) and that way we can even buy our groceries the next morning so we can make sure we’re on the road fast and easy once we’ve picked up the camper.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

East Coast<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After we’ve picked up the camper<\/a> we will drive towards Cape Canaveral and there we will pay a visit to the Kennedy Space Center<\/a> of course. I’m super excited, this must be so interesting. I’m curious to find out if it’s accessible to kids.<\/p>\n

After our “Space adventures” we will drive on through to Palm Beach. Here we will enjoy the beach and perhaps do some snorkelling. I’ve packed a child’s snorkelling set in the suitcase and I’m curious to see if Floris will be interested in snorkelling yet.<\/p>\n

After 2 days of Palms Springs it’s time for art deco and ok… a little more beach, in Miami. Depending on the weather we’d like to visit the Children’s Museum, which should be a lot of fun for the kids.<\/p>\n

The South<\/strong><\/h3>\n

And then it’s time to explore the South of Florida; The Keys! I went there 18 years ago when it was rainy and grey. I’m hoping the weather conditions will be better this time. We’ll be in Key Largo for the first 2 days and would like to take a trip on a glass bottom boat. After Key Largo we’ll drive on down the Souths most beautiful route on to Key West. There we will stay a bit longer to enjoy the weather and the relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n

West Florida<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We won’t forget the Everglades. We’ll drive there straight from Key West. The kids are keen on seeing crocodiles so we’ve booked a super cool airboat tour. We’ll be going on a boat with a giant propeller on the back in search of crocodiles.<\/p>\n

After this exciting trip it’s time again for sun, sea, beaches and looking for shells in Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. After we’ve relaxed and caught a tan we’ll drive back to Orlando where the grand finale for the kids will take place.. A two day visit to Mickey and his buddies Disney World Orlando. We’ve even booked the Disney Resort Camping. It will not get any more “Disney” than this.<\/p>\n

The last day its mum and dad’s version of “Disney World”: shop till you drop in Orlando’s enormous shopping malls.<\/p>\n

I’m sooooooo excited to go and so are Kev and the kids luckily. I’ll be keeping you up to date on all of our adventures during our already legendary Florida Road trip.<\/p>\n
