This flight has a stopover in Mexico City before you\u2019re delivered to Cancun Airport. For us this was fine. If you\u2019re with very small children or children that don\u2019t enjoy flying as much, you can choose to fly directly to Cancun.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>We live relatively close to Schiphol Airport so the bus is an excellent and budget friendly way to travel back and forth to Schiphol.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>On to cost item number #2 Knowing we were in Mexico for 15 days, that means we spent about 200,- a day on stuff such as accommodations, transport, food and drinks.<\/p><p>I\u2019ve booked all the hotels through booking.com. Our kids appreciate a pool so we made sure all the hotels or apartments had one. Also, we made sure all the accommodations had a three star rating and a score of 8 or higher.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>We were offered a car by Auto Europe. I did take the costs of a rental into this cost item though. As well as the insurance we paid ourselves. The costs of the insurance were 3 times as high as the rental costs. But in Mexico, an all-risk insurance is no unnecessary luxury.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The \u201cfood and drink\u201d cost item is rather diverse. The first 8 nights we mainly stayed in hotels. We often had breakfast in the room but went out for lunch and dinner. The item \u201csouvenirs\u201d speaks for itself. What we bought? Here are a few useful tips:<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol><li><strong>Travel by public transport instead of a rental car. There is a good infrastructure of busses in Yucatan and Quintana Roo and you can use the little busses called \u201ccolectivo\u201d too.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Book 2 person bedrooms \/ apartments and ask for an extra bed. This is usually done without any extra cost. Our kids fit into one bed together. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Go to the supermarket instead of going out for dinner. Have breakfast with self-made sandwiches, fruit and yoghurt with cruesli and make lunch packages for in the afternoon.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Eat \u201clocal\u201d. We grabbed a bite to eat \u201con the road\u201d a couple of times.
